Student Athlete After School Program – Mind, Body and Spirit

To encourage the academic as well as the physical growth of your child, we have developed the Student Athlete After School Program where a tutor and a baseball coach provide academic support and baseball instruction to student athletes. The hours are from 2:00pm to 6:30pm. During the academic portion we are able to help students with their homework, test preparation, projects or with a specific subject. The personal enrichment/character aspects of our program focuses on helping each child develop greater self-confidence by developing a skill set that will further assist them with the challenges they will face.

We start the program by discussing the meaning and significance of quote or other phrase of significance which is generally from a philosopher or other person that has wisdom. The discussion is open-minded and allows all students to participate and bring their specific back-ground and knowledge into the discussion so that contrary thoughts or non-customary thoughts are encouraged and tolerated. We then apply the philosophy to working as a team to instill the necessity that all players/members have value and working together creates more resources to deal with challenges

The team concepts are developed through the students tutoring or baseball sessions. For example, we always start and finish the activities at the same time. When we are doing the baseball drills and it is time to rotate, we wait until everyone is ready to start the following drills. We also teach the student athletes how to work in pairs and in groups.

Their mental capacities are engaged and exercised through the school work and the academic support. The body is enhanced by learning a sport, and with fitness activities including the emphasis of diet and balance to work all aspects of the body.

Their spirit is elevated with the overall activities of the Student Athlete After School Program. They feel better about themselves when their grades are improving, or when they start to do better in games because of the practice they have had to get them ready for that challenge. When they look in the mirror they see how they are getting stronger and fit.

Music is used during the physical aspects of the program to help motivate while the students perform drills and practice their strength and conditioning exercises. Music can be inspirational to work harder or work through the more tedious exercises, with the goal encouraging practice, since through practice there is improvement especially when the practice is routine or difficult.
